Set to sell at an estimated $2.5 million is an Art Deco ring that features a sugarloaf cut sapphire weighing 17.66 carats along with diamonds, which will headline Christie’s upcoming Jewelry auction in New York. Christie’s announced the Rockefeller Kashmir Sapphire as one of the many items to be included in the Magnificent Jewels auction scheduled for December 10th.
According to Christie’s, the custom ring is part of a large jewelry collection owned by Mr. & Mrs. John D. Rockefeller III and has been lovingly preserved by Sandra Ferry Rockefeller. In addition to jewelry, the Rockefeller Collection includes Asian art and artifacts, American paintings, as well as works by modern and post-war artists and will be sold in various New York auctions at Christie’s.
Christie’s has agreed to donate a portion of the sale proceeds from this auction to support Sandra Ferry Rockefeller’s Foundation. This Foundation supports programs that provide resources to empower youth from diverse communities to make connections, spark inspiration and create positive change.
“This collection reflects the Rockefeller Family’s long-standing commitment to the values of stewardship and generosity,” said Jonathan Rendell, Consultant for Christie’s Americas. “These treasured items have been loved by generations and will once again be shared publicly so they may be celebrated.“
In addition to the historical and contemporary pieces being offered in the Magnificent Jewels Auction, there will be rare and unique creations by such notable designers as JAR, Cartier and David Webb.
