The story of the stolen and swallowed earrings has received its continuation as the items have been recovered.
Jaythan Gilder, from Houston, reportedly made off with high-end jewelry valued at almost $800K in February. When police stopped his car, he came up with an idea to swallow the ear pieces to hide them.
By March 12, detectives had all four Tiffany earrings at their disposal. One officer stayed at the hospital the entire time, waiting for the jewelry to pass through Gilder’s system. Detectives Aaron Goss and Tiffany Perez shared on Facebook that the items were recovered, cleaned, and returned to Tiffany’s. The company’s jeweler checked everything and stated that those were the stolen pieces.

Tiffany & Co. hasn’t said yet what they’ll do with the returned earrings.
The heist happened in Orlando. In our article, we’ve already described how he stole the jewelry. Jaythan Gilder went into a Tiffany & Co. store, pretending he worked for a player from the local basketball team. He made up a story that the player wanted to buy diamond earrings and a ring. Usually, sales consultants invite such clients into a VIP room with comfortable sofas and a calm atmosphere. They brought the jewelry he was looking for. Unexpectedly, Gilder stood up, grabbed the pieces, and ran away. Later the same day, the Florida Highway Patrol stopped the thief because his car had no working taillights. While police were arresting him, he swallowed some of the jewelry to hide it. Jail staff later confirmed with a scan that there were foreign objects in his stomach.
At the time, Gilder was already wanted for 48 missed court appearances in Colorado and had other charges for resisting arrest.
Police also found out that Gilder had done something very similar before. Three years ago, he was charged with stealing from another Tiffany & Co. store.
