Christie’s recent online auction in Hong Kong was interesting for collectors and investors because it offered several high-value pieces which outperformed their estimates. The sale, titled Jewels Online: the Hong Kong Edit, ran from March 10 to 21 and brought in a total of HKD 26.5 million (around $3.4 million).

A standout of the auction was a flawless, pear-shaped diamond ring weighing almost 9 carats. Graded E in color, this exceptional piece achieved HKD 2.5 million (approximately $324,000), making it the most expensive item at the auction.

Several other items offered without reserve received enthusiastic bidding and were sold for much more than expected:

  • A ruby and diamond necklace, expected to sell for up to HKD 300,000 ($38,500), was purchased for twice more, with a final sale price of HKD 604,800 ($77,800).
  • A 10.06-carat diamond ring with small inclusions and clear yellow tint went for almost HKD 530,000 ($68,000), more than its expected price of HKD 280,000.
  • A classic ring with 14 diamonds weighing slightly more than 14 carats also surpassed its high estimate, earning HKD 352,800 ($45,400).

Jewelry from famous brands like Wallace Chan, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chanel, and Cartier also sold for higher prices than predicted. Attention to branded fine jewelry shows the global demand and desire to have own pieces with stories.
