Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azvedo, emphasized that the seeds planted in 2017 are beginning to bear fruits.
Angola’s diamond mines achieved a milestone this year, producing a record-breaking 12 million carats and exceeding the ten million carat mark. According to the information shared by the Minister, this milestone represents over 82% of the target set for the current year under the PDN 2023-2027 plan. The country’s production comes from several mines, including Catoca, Lulo, and Leule.
Such promising results became possible due to legal and tax reforms introduced in the sector. To attract foreign investors and persuade some companies to return to the market, Angola worked hard to guarantee transparency and a healthy, competitive business environment.
Important initiatives will be continued in 2025, as well as new ones will be introduced. These include efforts to implement the Digital Mining Registry (CMA), ongoing actions to establish the Angola Diamond Exchange, the planned inauguration of a gold extraction facility in Luanda in 2025, and preparations for constructing the Ornamental Stone Development Hub in Namibe province.
