What payment methods do you accept, and do you require a deposit or offer financing?

Custom Jewelry Payment Methods, Deposits & Financing in the U.S.

When commissioning a custom piece, it’s important that clients know what the final product will look like, and also have clear information about the payment process. Clients should be informed of available payment methods, the reasons for any deposits requested and whether there are other financing options available prior to proceeding with a personalized project. We understand that a custom jewelry is a meaningful investment, and our goal is to ensure that you feel comfortable and confident at every step.

At Olertis, we provide transparency at each phase of a project. From the start, you will have a clear understanding of all your financial responsibilities, rights and available options.

Accepted Payment Methods: Cards, Checks, Online

When it comes to paying for custom jewelry, clients typically prioritize three key factors: flexibility, legitimacy, and familiarity with payment options. Unusual or unclear payment options often create concern over whether they are compliant with commercial and consumer protection laws.

At Olertis, we accept all major U.S. bank cards, including Visa, MasterCard and American Express, as well as both credit and debit cards. Online payments can be made securely via a client’s personal account or in person at our office, providing digital convenience combined with offline accountability. Additionally, for larger custom jewelry commissions, Olertis also accepts traditional paper bank checks. Checks remain a common choice among clients who prefer documented paper trails for added security and clarity.

Custom Jewelry Deposit Policy in the U.S.: Amount, Purpose, and Refunds

A deposit is standard practice in the custom jewelry industry. At Olertis, a 50% deposit is required before beginning production of your piece, in line with standard practices among reputable custom and bespoke jewelry manufacturers. We know that placing a deposit can feel like a big step, so we make sure you understand exactly what it covers and why it exists.

The deposit serves several operational and legally necessary functions, including:

All invoices are uploaded into the client’s private account, which serves as the primary source for all payment records and project documentation. Once an invoice is generated, the client submits the deposit directly through their account and completes the final payment from the same account. Each invoice outlines the approved design scope, the materials to be used (including gemstones), the metal types and the estimated cost. Deposits may be made via credit or debit card, PayPal or U.S. bank check. The deposit is only applied toward the specific approved order and cannot be applied toward other projects or future orders.

We don’t receive a lot of requests for deposit refunds at Olertis, but we understand the need for transparency. If Olertis has not yet started the design development process (such as 3D modeling), or produced any designs, sketches, renderings or any visual elements, the deposit will be refunded in full within 2–3 business days. However, if 3D modeling or production had already begun, any costs incurred up to that point will be deducted from the deposit, and the remaining balance will be returned.

Final Payment, Secure Processing, and Insured U.S. Shipping

Final payment is due only after the manufacturing process is completed. Clients can submit the outstanding balance through their private account, in person at our office or by mailing a U.S. bank check. All shipments of finished custom jewelry are insured and will only be sent once full payment has been received and cleared. Insured shipping is standard in the jewelry business, and a signature from a recipient will be required upon delivery. We want you to feel confident and secure, knowing your custom piece is protected from the moment it leaves our studio until it arrives in your hands.

All online payments are processed exclusively by PayPal as our online payment processor. Olertis does not store, process or maintain bank card data. All online transactions are strictly confidential and comply with all applicable U.S. payment security requirements. Although the typical time frame for processing approved refunds is 14 days, Olertis usually processes refunds within 3–7 business days.

Custom Jewelry Financing Options for High-Value Orders

Financing is only offered for orders of $50,000 or above. Installment plans can only be arranged in person at the Olertis office to ensure proper identity verification and compliance with contractual agreements.

Key Terms:

  • Minimum initial payment of $5,000
  • Monthly payment plan
  • Repayment period of 6–12 months
  • Zero percent interest rate

This type of in-office installment program does not affect the client’s credit score; however, it is enforceable under U.S. law in the event of default and protects both parties. If financing is right for your project, we’ll walk you through it step by step so you always feel supported and informed.

What Clients Should Know Before Ordering Custom Jewelry: FAQ

Q Can custom jewelry payments be made in stages or installments?
At Olertis, payments are typically made in two stages: a deposit to start the work and a final payment after completion. Any additional payment stages or installment plans must be agreed upon in writing by both parties.
Q Is a custom jewelry deposit legally protected under U.S. law?
Yes. Deposits are covered under written invoices and U.S. contract law. If the work has not been started as defined in the invoice, deposits will be refunded under the conditions outlined in the terms.
Q What documents prove payment and order details for custom jewelry?
All payments will be linked to an invoice outlining the approved design, materials and scope of the project. The invoice serves as the proof of record of the transaction and protects both parties.
Q Can a chargeback be filed on a custom jewelry order in the U.S.?
Under U.S. law, chargebacks may apply if a custom piece isn’t delivered due to Olertis’ fault or it materially differs from the approved design. If a custom piece matches the approved specifications, chargebacks are usually denied and depend on the documents provided by Olertis.
Q How are online payments for custom jewelry secured?
All online payments are processed by PayPal. Olertis does not store any card data, ensuring your confidentiality and compliance with U.S. payment security and data protection standards.
Q Do metal or gemstone price changes affect the final project cost?
No. Once the deposit is made and materials are locked in, changes in prices due to market fluctuations will not affect the agreed-upon price unless you approve a change to the design or materials.
Q Is full payment required before shipping custom jewelry in the U.S.?
Yes. According to the U.S. industry standards for high-value custom jewelry items, insured shipping will only be arranged once the full payment has been received and cleared.
