De Beers is always up to speed with the need for diamond market developments. Whatever happens in any given sector, they are already aware of all trends. What’s unusual is that currently, the whole diamond industry experiences oversupply which is why it’s wiser to postpone any sights and sales till later in the year. This is why De Beers decided to combine its two upcoming events into one: instead of two sights in August and October, there will now be one major sale in September.
The grand event is scheduled for September 23-27 (combined sights 7&8), while the next two sights will fall on November 11 through 15 and December 2 through 6. As you might know, the previous dates that got canceled were as follows:
- Sight #7: August 26-30;
- Sight #8: October 7-11;
- Sight #9: November 11-15;
- Sight #10: December 9-13.
In particular, sight #10 was rescheduled to earlier dates due to a UN event in Gaborone, Botswana that will take place on 10 through 13 of December. Given how many major industry players will attend this event, it was decided to change the initial schedule to avoid any possible inconveniences.
According to the mining company representatives, the revised scheduling will work better for sightholders, as it will optimally support their needs. The dates have been thoroughly reconsidered to meet all the participants’ needs in view of the industry dynamics at the end of this year.
